I am the Clinical Director and Owner of a private practice, A Balanced Life: Individual, Family and Child Therapy, Inc. in South Lake Tahoe, CA. From a young age I was influenced from my fathers passion and drive to help others. My value system leads me to be highly passionate about providing ethical, researched and effective therapy that produces positive results for my clients, helps heal and creates more joy and love in the world.
In alignment of these values, I have completed my Level 3 Gottman training.
I use the Gottman Method Couples Therapy, while infusing my own personal style of being honest, direct, at times using humor, and remaining non-judgmental. My hope is to work collaboratively with my clients to help them heal, grow and strengthen their relationships. I am passionate about my work and constantly educate myself to provide quality therapy. I know I've done my job well when my clients get to successfully graduate and use the skills learned in therapy on their own.
I understand the importance of having a healthy relationship on one's emotional, psychological and physical health. I feel very grateful to be able to help couples find their way back to security, appreciation, and thriving, rather than surviving. With the techniques from the Gottman Method I feel confident and excited to help couples have a fulfilling, lasting relationship.

Training/experience:
I completed my training and internship at UCSD Family Medicine in San Diego, CA in a collaborative care program. I worked collaboratively with patients' physicians and psychiatrists to assist in providing comprehensive healthcare. I worked at UCSD Family Medicine with patients who had been looking for help from their Primary Care Physician and were then referred to me for psychotherapy, crisis management, and support.
I am blessed that during my training years my supervisors consisted of a Primary Care Physician, two Psychiatrists, a Clinical Psychologist, and multiple LMFTs. I was side by side in learning with the medical students. My training from such a qualified and diverse group of clinicians makes me a highly skilled therapist who understands the importance of using evidence-based practices to insure quality care and better outcomes.
During my time at UCSD Family Medicine I was trained extensively in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). I also helped pilot a 6-C Stress Management Group for patients with chronic health conditions.
After four years at UCSD Family Medicine I moved on to the private practice of PsyCare, Inc. which also used a collaborative approach, combining psychiatric care and psychotherapy in the same location.
I currently work at A Balanced Life in South Lake Tahoe providing adult individual and couples counseling. I am the Clinical Director and Supervisor and assist in training and supervising our Associate MFTs.
The Gottman Method Couples Therapy
In 2019, I completed Level 2 training for the Gottman Method Couples Therapy and I am extremely excited to be implementing such an evidence-based therapy practice to help couples heal and strengthen. The Gottman Method is based on 40 years of research and has an 80% effectiveness rate. To give you perspective of how high that is, research shows that most other couples therapy is typically 15-50% effective! Imagine if you went to your doctor and they said you only had a 15-50% chance of recovery! But now couples have a much better chance at healing and long term success.
Therapeutic Style:
I am honest, direct, and non-judgmental. I listen to my clients to hear what they need help with, and use my training to assist in identifying treatment goals and interventions to reach these goals. I am trained and specialized in using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to treat panic disorder, depression, anxiety and OCD (I use ERP- Exposure and Response Prevention, a specific form of CBT, for OCD). I incorporate mindfulness into my work and interventions from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Solution Focused Therapy. I have completed my Level 3 training in The Gottman Method Couples Therapy. I work best with clients who are ready to do the work and begin their journey to get unstuck and start thriving.

On a personal note:
I grew up in a small New England town spending my winters skiing in Vermont. During my childhood I fell in love with skiing and the outdoors and that has influenced a large part of who I am today. I believe that having a strong connection with nature, family, and friends is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle. I consistently work on finding a balance in my own life as I help my clients on finding what that balance looks like in theirs.
